What an exciting week here at TvE. This week was Red Ribbon Week and each day we had something different to do each day. On Monday, we had our ROCK Solid Safety program in the cafeteria. We saw a funny show about how we can be safe and how to make safe choices even when there is not an adult around. Mrs. Maggart and Brian were even picked as volunteers to help with an explanation about what things are safe to drink and what aren't safe to drink or handle.
On Tuesday, we wore silly socks. On Wednesday, we all wore red. On Thursday, we wore silly hats. On Friday, we got to see a really funny puppet show. Ask me what I learned at the puppet show.
We finished our "First Grade Feeds" fliers that we made to distribute at the Fun Run on Saturday to promote our fight against hunger as we try to collect food for the Teravista food drive. We even started to graph how many different kinds of foods Tiger Team collected just in our classroom.
We also went on a gallery walk in our classroom and voted on the flyer we wanted to use in our broadcast about our fight against hunger. Kendall's flyer had the most votes! We practiced our parts and recorded this message to be featured on our morning broadcast.
We are still reading lots of poetry and Mrs. Maggart shared with us a few books filled with funny poems about kids just like me!

Next week we will be looking at more poetry and trying to write a new type of poem: a found poem!
In Writer's Workshop, we have been working very hard on our writing. After we finish a piece, we go back and "edit" our stories by looking at our punctuation, spaces, handwriting, spelling, and whether we wrote a beginning, middle, and end. Mrs. Maggart conferences with us and we edit it again. It's a lot of hard work, but I get to send my finished copy to the publishing company and they return it with a cover, typed, and ready for me to illustrate. Here are a few of Tiger Team sharing their published pieces.
In Science, we've been learning all about the 4 seasons of the year. We read a book every day about the seasons. Here are a few Mrs. Maggart shared with us full of lots of interesting facts.

During the fall or autumn season, we harvest pumpkins. On Thursday, we went to the science lab and explored pumpkins with our 5 senses. We had so much fun!
This week, we had all sorts of special visitors. Thank you Mrs. Rose for helping us during Writer's Workshop and for our Reading Round-up. Mr. Licht also helped us when he was a Watch D.O.G. dad this week. Mr. Rose came in and helped us in the science lab. On Friday, Mrs. Connelly, our Assistant Principal, also came to read us a surprise story. It was a special surprise to have her come into our classroom and share a special story with Tiger Team.
Tonight is the school dance. We hope to see Mrs. Maggart and the other 1st grade teachers at the Fun Run this Saturday. First grade will have a table where we will continue to collect food for our "First Grade Feeds" project. Whew! So much to do this weekend! See you Monday!
Love,
