This week was a short week because we had Monday off for Labor Day.
When we came back on Tuesday, we had so much to do! We started our morning off with an assembly for our annual Reading Rally school fundraiser. This is a great opportunity for me to help earn money for our school and for me to earn prizes, like these really cool ducks.

This was our last week to do a whole group word sort for our Word Study. Next week, Mrs. Maggart will have us work on word sorts that meet my needs and are words and spelling patterns that I need to work on to help me become a better speller when I am writing and even when I am reading.
This week, we read two really funny books.

This is a story about a boy with a very big problem...he doesn't share his toys.

This is a funny story about how Munch overcame his problem of a giant monster that was eating everything!
We used these books to learn about story maps and how to identify important components of a story plot: main characters, supporting characters, setting, problem, and solution. Of course, we always look for the story title and author. Here is a story map for one of our books. Ask me to tell you about both of these stories!
In Writer's Workshop, we have been talking about details and how writers sometimes have to stop, close our eyes, and think about what other details there were about an event we're writing about. We helped Mrs. Maggart think of a lot of details for her story about our tornado practice drill. It was easy for her to then write a whole page about it. We even wanted to add another page to the story.
We are working hard at being great mathematicians. This week, we are working on recognizing, reading, and writing our numbers from 1 to 100. We practice different ways of skip counting to 100 every day. We are working on making numbers using our ones and tens blocks. Here is something we do for our Morning Job every Friday. The number of the day was 23.
We are working very hard on our daily problem solving which we call "Question of the Day." Here is our Strategy Wall with the expectations listed. Each time Mrs. Maggart finds a problem in our Math Journals that meets these expectations, it is added to the wall. We had 4 problems added this week! What great mathematicians!
While Mrs. Maggart is working with our different math groups at her table, we are busy being mathematicians and learning to work independently on math "games" and activities. We get to choose one of the activities from our math buckets. Some of them we play with a buddy, others we try independently.
Completing 100's charts using all sorts of strategies and counting methods.
Playing a Time Concentration game with a buddy.
In Science, we worked hard to complete our scientist posters. Here we are synergizing at our table groups.
Mrs. Maggart also filmed our presentations as we explained the name of our scientist, what they research or study, and where they do these research at.
Love,
